For substack readers
I’m up to five subscribers on Substack and my last post went viral with 7 views! (One of those was me, so I consider anything above 2 views to be viral.) I’m currently cross-posting between the Wordpress blog and Substack until I decide what to do.
It turns out a good number of readers on my Wordpress site read it via RSS, and because of the RSS protocol I don’t have good visibility into how many. The RSS readers would prefer to read the blog since Substack doesn’t (and almost certainly will not) support RSS.
Right now cross-posting means copying and pasting. I write the articles in the Wordpress editor and then paste them into Substack. I learned that there are a few problems here. First, the relative URLs I use to link stuff on my blog won’t work on Substack. This means I need to make the URLs absolute with the full domain name.
Images don’t come across very well either. I noticed a lot of extraneous meta-text around the image in the last post.
The summary is: bear with me while I figure out how to make this work, and decide on a platform going forward. Thanks for reading!
